The Local Arrangements Committee, chaired by Dr. Manohar Bance, has worked very hard to put together some terrific social events for you. That, coupled with a scientific program that has “the future” as its theme, will make this a very memorable experience for all those who attend. Our Scientific Program Chair, Dr. Andre Tan, in conjunction with the CPD and the Sub-specialty Committee Chairs, has developed a diverse and rich program based on your evaluations and comments from last year. In keeping with the “future trends” theme of the meeting, you will hear from international guest speakers, as well as from the Society’s own “four prognosticator” who will speak about what’s coming down the OHNS pipeline and coming trends. WORKSHOPS AND PANELS SUNDAY, MAY 10, 2009 MONDAY, MAY 11, 2009 TUESDAY, MAY 12, 2009 WEDNESDAY, MAY 13, 2009 HANDS-ON COURSE: TRANSORAL LASER SURGERY This FULL DAY course will feature lectures in the morning session followed by a hands-on TLM cadaver dissection in the afternoon. The course will be held in the new Surgical Skills Laboratory at the QE2 Health Sciences Centre in Halifax. Participants will be eligible for up to 8 hours of CME as per the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Course Director - S. In addition, the 63rd annual scientific program will include the following paper sessions – General ENT, Education & Research, Pediatric Otolaryngology, Otology, Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Head & Neck and Rhinology. Also included will be poster presentations covering the various sub-specialty areas of otolaryngology. GLAXOSMITHKLINE POSTER COMPETITION The Society will award a $500 prize for the best scientific poster presentation at the meeting. HOW TO ENTER THE GSK POSTER COMPETITION Posters that have been ACCEPTED FOR PRESENTATION at the annual meeting MUST be submitted ELECTRONICALLY to the Scientific Program Chair in its final format as a MS PowerPoint slide by 4:00 p.m. (EST) on MARCH 31st, 2009. Any poster that does not meet this deadline WILL NOT be considered for the poster competition. Posters submitted before the deadline will be short-listed by a selection committee prior to the meeting according to preset criteria. The top ten posters will be reviewed by committee members and discussed with the principal authors during the meeting and a winner subsequently selected. ROYAL COLLEGE MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION PROGRAM The 63rd Annual Meeting is an accredited group learning activity under Section 1, as defined by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for the maintenance of certification program.
